How to find the name of an anime or show from a YouTube Short
Published 8 October 2026. Updated 12 October 2026.
- On a Short, tap Share, then Copy link.
- Open CommentSift and tap Paste.
- See the name and the comment it came from.
Step 1 is a drawing, not the real YouTube app. The show and the comments in the video are made up.
Short answer: the name is usually already in the comments. Someone asked "what's this called?" and someone else answered. You can dig for that reply yourself, or paste the link into CommentSift and it reads the comments and replies for you.

Here are the same steps in words, plus how to look for the name yourself.
Why Shorts rarely tell you the name
Many Shorts are recap clips. The title is often a hook like "He was the weakest until…" instead of the show's real name. The real name tends to show up in three places:
- The comments. Someone asks, someone answers. The answer is often hidden inside a reply, not a top comment.
- The description. Some channels write "Title:" or "Manhwa name:" there.
- The channel's other videos. A channel that recaps one series often names it on a longer video.
How to look by hand
- Open the comments and sort by Top comments.
- Look for questions like "name?", "what's this called?" or "manhwa name pls". Tap replies under them. The answer is usually there.
- Check the description. Tap the title (or the three dots on a Short, then Description).
- Found a name? Search it on AniList (anime, manga, manhwa) or Wikipedia (movies and TV) to make sure it's the right one.
How to do it with CommentSift
- In the YouTube app, tap Share under the video (on Shorts it's the arrow on the right).
- Tap Copy link.
- Open CommentSift and tap Paste. It starts looking right away. If the Paste button doesn't work on your phone, paste the link into the box yourself and tap Find the name.
CommentSift reads the comments and the replies. When it finds a name, it shows you the comment it came from and checks the name against AniList, MangaDex, Kitsu or Wikipedia. If nobody has named it yet, it says so instead of guessing, and you can add it to your check-back list to look again later.
Tip for Android: add CommentSift to your home screen from your browser's menu. On many Android phones it then shows up in YouTube's Share menu, so you can skip copy and paste. Here is how to add CommentSift to your Android Share menu.
What if nobody knows yet?
Brand-new clips sometimes have no answer yet. Come back in a day or two; people often name it once more viewers see it. If you do find the name somewhere else, you can tell CommentSift with I know the name so the next person gets it faster.
